Color Kaleidoscopes!

These paintings use hypnotic kaleidoscope designs to represent 8 different color schemes. This is always the first painting with my 7th graders, it introduces them to watercolors as well as the whole clean up process!
We start by dividing the paper into 8 sections and assigning each section a color scheme. Here are the 8 schemes we used: Primary
Secondary
Warm
Cool
Tertiary
Analogous
Monochromatic
Complementary
After the sections are assigned a color scheme we create a design on an index card. This design needs to be pretty simple, just lines and shapes. I don't reccomend including any numbers or letters. Then the design is traced and flipped and traced until each section has the design. Then we use watercolors and paint each section the designanted color scheme.
These painting always turn out awesome!
