All About Me Collages!

We are starting the school year with a fun and personalized project! I love starting the year with these collages for the 7th graders because not only does it give me a chance to get to know my new students and their names; it also gives them a chance to get used to the process of gathering materials and cleaning up.

THE PROCESS: The first thing the students did was look for the letters to spell out their first and last name. Some got creative when they couldn't find a letter and just cut them out of an interesting image.

Once they spell their names they look through all the donated magazines for images, words, and phrases that tell me all about them. The goal is to fill up as much space as possible and fit as many images as they can.

Here are the 10 things I look for when evaluating their work:

-Name and hour written on the back

-Good coverage (very little blank areas)

-Clean edges

-First and last name spelled on collage

-Variety of images

-Proper use of materials

-Pieces are all glued down properly

-Shows hobbies, interests, personailty

-Overall neatness (craftsmanship)

The students really enjoy working on these, its so fun seeing them get excited when they find something they really love to add to their collage.
